PUBLICATION OF THE NEWSLETTER HAS BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Balsam Roots is the quarterly newsletter (February, May, August, November) of the Haywood County Historical & Genealogical Society. A subscription to the newsletter is included with an active HCHGS membership. The newsletter contains queries and announcements about meetings, seminars, conventions, and member news. Additionally, Balsam Roots includes transcriptions of historical documents and stories about residents of Haywood County, NC. Copies of past issues are available to the public and may be purchased from the HCHGS, please see our Publications Catalog for ordering information.
Documents previously published include data from the 1810, 1820, 1850 and 1860 Haywood County censuses, early court records, school records, etc. We are presently publishing Haywood County Apprentice Bonds, Delayed Birth Certificates, and deed abstracts. All HCHGS members are welcome to submit material for publication consideration. We invite everyone to announce family reunions or gatherings for Haywood County residents or ancestors. The newsletter publishes the following types of material:
- Articles about the history of Haywood County or genealogical subjects.
- Announcements of any upcoming events of historical or genealogical importance to Haywood County.
- Queries about genealogical research or historical events in Haywood County.
