Cataloochee Revisited: Bus Tour with Author Wayne Caldwell
Registration Opens May 1, 2017
Please join award-winning local author Wayne Caldwell on Saturday, August 5, 2017, for a day trip to the Cataloochee Valley Historic Area. Caldwell based his best selling fiction series (Cataloochee and Requiem by Fire) on life in the Cataloochee Valley before and during the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The tour includes several historical exhibits and buildings as well as reflections and readings from Dr. Caldwell. Join us to re-imagine the daily life of the homes, farms, and families of this region and to learn about their displacement.
Tour participants will walk throughout the historic area including a one mile round trip walk to visit one of the sites. Transportation by motor coach to and from the area and a box lunch are provided with your event registration. The tour departs from the Smith-McDowell House in Asheville, NC at 10:00 am and returns at approximately 4:00 pm. This event is a cooperation between WNCHA and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC Asheville.
Space is limited and advance registration and payment is required. Please contact the Smith-McDowell House at smh@wnchistory.org or by calling 828-253-9231 to reserve your seat. This is a light rain or shine event.
$75.00 for the general public; $65.00 for WNCHA members.
