HCHGS Resource Center – Research Requests
The HCHGS maintains a Resource Center located in Clyde, North Carolina. Many materials are available including instructional videotapes (specialized lectures on “How to” topics and methods of researching) and a variety of genealogical magazines and basic genealogical reference works. The Resource Center materials are for reference only, and materials will not circulate. Members have free access to the center and to its contents. For non-members a $3 donation per visit is requested.
Western Regional Archives
“The Western Regional Archives (WRA) collects, preserves, and makes available for public use historical and evidential materials relating to Western North Carolina.” The WRA is administered by the State Archives of North Carolina and is located in Asheville, NC.
The WRA holdings consist primarily of private collections and some microfilmed county records. They have a small library of books relevant to local history and for genealogical research in the counties of western North Carolina. See our Blog for a list of microfilmed materials for Haywood County.
